Base44 — Build an App with AI

Wix.com Ltd.

Consider Base44 when you want to describe an app in plain language and get a working version with sign-in, a database and hosting that you edit by chat. Judge it with one small app before relying on it for real users.

Check AI answers against their sources. Review account permissions and data settings before sharing private files or connections.

Before publishing with user data or payments, review sign-in and database access rules, check whether the published app is public by default and keep secrets out of prompts and client code.

App Store and Google Play review, a developer account and testing on a real device are your responsibility.

Check the official page for current quotas and output conditions.

Who is it for?

  • People without a coding background who want a working internal tool, customer portal or small business app, not just a static design.
  • Builders who accept a managed platform for hosting, database and sign-in, and who may export the frontend code later.

Getting started

  • Sign up on the official site, describe one app in a few sentences (who signs in, what they record, what the list screen shows) and read the first preview.
  • Change the app by chat, then test sign-in, saving a record and the mobile layout in the preview before you open the publish panel.
  • In the publish panel check the visibility setting and the security status, run the security scan if it is out of date, then publish and open the public address in a private window.

Decision points

  • Code export (GitHub or ZIP) and two-way GitHub sync are documented for the Builder plan or higher; the managed hosting, authentication system and database infrastructure stay on the platform. If you may want to move later, check the plan before you build.
  • The output is a responsive web app that can be added to a phone's home screen. Store files (IPA/AAB) come from a lightweight native wrapper and also need the Builder plan or higher; choose another tool if you need a fully native app.

Limits

  • The terms make you responsible for reviewing generated output before publishing and for settings that can allow public access by default; apps such as landing pages or portfolios start as public, and private apps need a paid plan. The security scan warns about risks but does not block publishing.
  • Store submission is yours: Apple and Google developer accounts, listings, fees and review belong to you, and approval is not guaranteed. The documentation lists full offline mode and HealthKit as unsupported and says Stripe cannot be used for digital goods in a store app.
  • Usage runs on message credits for AI building and integration credits for the services of the published app, and the free plan has daily and monthly caps. Plan terms change, so read the official pricing and credits pages. OOXL did not run Base44 or measure its output quality.

Frequently asked questions

Who owns the app I build?

The terms say that, to the extent such rights exist under applicable law, the customer owns the code and applications Base44 generates, and that generated output can resemble other people's output. This is the vendor's statement, not legal advice; read section 5 of the terms yourself.

Can I take the code and run it elsewhere?

On the Builder plan or higher you can export client code and backend functions to GitHub or as a ZIP and download database collections as CSV. Managed hosting, the authentication system and the database infrastructure cannot be exported, so you would need to provide those yourself elsewhere.
