Who is it for?

  • Useful for taking a quick screenshot on Linux and marking it up at the same time.
  • Useful for people who want to tie capture to keyboard shortcuts and command-line scripts.

Getting started

  • Pick the install method for your system in the installation section of the official site: AppImage, package manager, Snap or Flathub on Linux; an installer or portable file on Windows; Homebrew or a .dmg on macOS.
  • Open the capture interface, select a region and add arrows, text, highlights, blur, boxes or shapes.
  • Save the result; set up upload or command-line options from the docs if needed, and blur anything sensitive.

Decision points

  • Consider it if you want a Linux-first, open-source, scriptable capture tool.
  • The sources do not describe screen recording or text extraction; if you need those too, compare tools such as Better Shot, Snow Shot or ShareX.

Limits

  • On Wayland, GNOME, KDE and Hyprland are supported but need xdg-desktop-portal and the matching backend package; GNOME can show persistent sharing permission prompts.
  • On Hyprland, multiple displays need a window rule and work correctly only with monitors of equal resolution; the KDE 4K fractional-scaling issue is fixed in v14.0.0 and later.
  • Install options exist for Windows and macOS; for details on those platforms, see the official docs.
