What should you compare?

Try a short drawing and a two-frame animation on a small canvas, and check that pencil, fill, symmetry and layer tools behave as you expect. When enlarging, confirm that nearest-neighbor scaling is used and edges stay sharp.

Confirm support for sprite-sheet export, transparent PNG, GIF, frame timing and palette files in the official documentation. Some tools run in the browser and others are paid desktop apps; available source code does not necessarily mean ready-made installers are free.

Can I turn a photo into pixel art? Some tools offer pixelation and color reduction, but the result usually needs manual clean-up. Check edges, stray single pixels and the number of colors, and convert only images you have the right to use.

Can text-to-image tools make pixel art? They can produce pixel-style pictures, but the result does not always sit on a clean pixel grid and may not include editable layers or animation frames. Sprites for a game usually still need pixel-level editing.
