Spreadsheet programs for calculations, organizing data in tables and using formulas, charts and pivot tables. First decide who you will share the files with, which format they use and whether more than one person will work on the same sheet.
Good to know: Free-use terms vary by tool and plan. When a card lists no tool-specific limit, check quotas, watermarks and export terms on the official page.
GridCraft is a desktop spreadsheet app with ribbon tabs, a formula bar, more than 500 calculation functions, dynamic arrays, seventeen chart types and PivotTables. It reads and writes spreadsheet files (.xlsx) and also works with CSV and TSV files. It is free and open source under MIT or Apache-2.0 with no subscription, but its README calls it alpha and says depth, fidelity and file compatibility are still rough. The official getartcraft.com page lists GridCraft as “In development” (checked 13 October 2026).

What should you compare?
Turning a table in a PDF into an editable sheet is a separate job; this page lists apps where you build tables and calculate yourself. Try it with a real file: add a few formulas, conditional formatting, a chart and a pivot table, then save the file and open it in another program to check that the formulas give the same results.
Check on the official page whether the app runs in a browser or on the desktop, whether it works without an internet connection, how co-editing works and which file formats it opens and saves (for example .xlsx, .ods and CSV). Macros and scripts often do not carry over between programs. If the app is in alpha, beta or development, work on a copy for important calculations and compare the results with an example whose answer you know.
Will my formulas work in another program? Common functions work under the same name in most programs, but newer functions, dynamic arrays, macros and some pivot table settings may not be supported. The decimal separator and function names can change with the language setting; check a few results by hand after opening the file.
What is the difference between CSV and .xlsx? CSV stores only values as plain text; it does not keep formatting, formulas, charts or more than one sheet. Use CSV to move data into another system, and a format such as .xlsx or .ods to keep the sheet with its layout.
